Several news outlets, including NPR and National Native News, have reported on the good work the students are doing in the Summer Art Program! Thank you Jim Kent! http://listen.sdpb.org/post/pine-ridge-summer-art-program-expands-life-colors
Hoye Wayelo is on! What a beautiful way to start the program! Students from all districts arrived and met with teachers and staff from all over the rez and all over the country! We kicked it all off with an opening circle, a beautiful meal and then dove right into dance, film, visual art and writing classes. These students are ready to make some art – it is going to be a busy two weeks!
Wopila to our major sponsors who are making the Hoye Wayelo Summer Arts Program a reality!
Dr. Lo Sprague and Rev. Dr. Gwynne Guibord
Lauren Bon and The Metabolic Studio – A project of The Annenberg Foundation
The Shakopee Nation
The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians
The Bill and Bonnie LeVine Foundation

And to all of our private donors – thank you!

The Sacred Hoop 500 Mile Prayer Run was a great success this year! Over 100 runners, 500 miles, and countless prayers! We even had an extra rest day at Devil’s Tower! It is such a beautiful and empowering experience for the youth and for all of the adults who come to support. We will double down on fundraising efforts next year so even more families can participate!
Thank you Agua Caliente for your generous grant and for sponsoring the Hoye Wayelo Summer Arts Program! Thank you for being such good care-takers of the community and of Indian Country! Wopila!!
We are deeply grateful to the Metabolic Studio for their matching grant to support the Hoye Wayelo Summer Arts Program!! Their deep commitment to art and to First Nations peoples is inspiring. Lela Wopila Lauren Bon and Metabolic Studio!!
